The first true P164 is up on Ftdna (N111531), and it is under CTS1366/N6 subgroup.

Thw first true P164 from phillipine has showed up on FTDNA (N111531): this one belongs the N6/CTS1366 subclade, with some interesting F snps.

Hello fjnj and any other experts who might be able to help me...

I also am a P164 that shows up FTDNA: N112633

I am at the start of trying to solve the mystery of my paternal line.

My father is from Guangdong Province (Southern China), specifically from Kaiping.

My paternal grandfather was also from this area, although he was an adopted child. I have no idea where he was adopted or where his birth parents were located.

My questions to the experts:

How prevalent is P164 in Southern China?

Does P164 point to any directions as to the origins of my grandfather's line (e.g. a specific region of China, Taiwan, Southeast Asia or Philippines)?

Thanks in advance for any clues you might be able to share with me.

There are talks about P164/N6 being associated with austranesian expansions in the island southeast asia (ISEA) in genetic literature. Dr. Yan Shi at Fudan Univerisity discovered the F snps and has more testing results from China so he probably can answer your questions far better than I will be able to do. If you are interested, I can pass along his email address through private message.

What your autosomal results say about your ancestral background? What are the top two reference populations and at what percentage?

According to Geno 2.0 my ancestral background:

65% Northeast Asian and 35% Southeast Asian.

My reference populations:

Chinese: 75% Northeast Asian and 25% Southeast Asian

Vietnamese (Kinh): 57% Northeast Asian and 43% Southeast Asian

The paternal surname (adopted) of my grandfather: Woo (in Cantonese), Hu in Mandarin. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hu_(surname)

I am very interested in contacting Dr. Yan Shi. Thank you!

I have come across some of the literature online regarding the link between P164 and Austronesian expansion (particularly the connection between the Ami people of Taiwan and Polynesians).

My reading (groping to understand) of this literature raised some natural questions in my mind.

Does P164 indicate that my paternal line is from the Ami or other aboriginal people of Taiwan or any of the Austronesian peoples of Southeast Asia?

Stumbling upon this community, I wondered if there is enough information in my SNPs that may indicate a direct, recent connection to the people of the Philippines or other Southeast Asian peoples.

You belong to a major chinese subclade (F444/F46) and not a true P164. F444 is one of the three main groups that expanded after the chinese became farmers. The other two groups are a M117 subclade and F11.

I'm not sure it means when you said that I am "not a true P164."

Did FTDNA misclassify my results?

Your subclade should be defined by the terminal snp, i.e. the most downstream one. P164 is upstream of M134, which you are positive. So you should be at least a M134(XM133, X means lacking) based on the current Y-tree. You can go to isogg website and check their current Y-tree structure. The Filipino sample lacks M134, so it would be P164(XM134), so it is a "real" P164 in that sense.

Thank you fjnj for your help and patience.

At this discussion about my results: http://forum.molgen.org/index.php/topic,5299.0.html, it was said:

"He is F444 + and F46 +, so he is M117-"

You said that I "should be at least a M134(XM133, X means lacking) based on the current Y-tree."

So just for the sake of clarity are F444/F46, M117- and M134(XM133) basically the same or is the current Y-tree about to be updated?

What should I put down for my YDNA in my personal profile if not O-P164?
