Why the last paper of Nogueiro et al., Echoes from Sepharad: signatures on the maternal gene pool of crypto-Jewish descendants, European Journal of Human Genetics, 30 July 2014, about the presumed Sephardic mt in Portugal is not convincing? Because they tested 57 people of Jewish descent. They got many haplotypes and they thought that were Jewish those not present or present at a lower percentage in the not Jewish people. This, firstly, would make us exclude like Jewish all the many others (and no one of the presumed Ashkenazic mt not recognized by the paper of Costa et al 2013 and for this criticized, but I have retained it true, seen also that this is what I am saying from years). Why is it not convincing that HV0b is a Sephardic mt? Just because it is present in 7 samples out of 57 in the Jewish people and not in the Iberian one? But hg HV0 is overwhelmingly European:

HV0b is present all over Europe. This haplotype with HVRI and II (T72C T195C C198T A263G 315.1C T16298C) is present also in SMGF with 4 samples, 1 from Portugal (Jose), but the other from Netherlands (Teubel), Germany (Leibengath), Italy (Bonaveri). Of course we should have an FMS, we should read the paper which isn't for free, even though the Supplements are, etc etc. It is true that the Sephardic clusters have some mutations:
1) 8520 (EF556192)
2) 10644 (A2, A14, A16, A22, C4)
3) 11914 (C6)
4) 15951 (A7)
but this could be a founder effect within the Sephardic community and doesn't say anything about the far origin.
