Here's the data but it's probably easier if you download table 2 and look at it on a spreadsheet:

So, is J1c7 the only J1c subclade in North Africa and I've never heard of J1a'b'e. The last I heard, J1a was phased out. Anyone know?

What information do you have on J2a? My Mtdna is J2a and my most maternal ancestor is from Germany.

Magnus

According to National Genographic's Geno 2.0 test, J2a1a has a strong presence in central Europe as well as northern Germany, Scandinavia and England, though it is found in other areas as well. They say it "spread from the Fertile Crescent during the Neolithic revolution."

23andme says J2a is from Europe, but either way, here is my spreadsheet to check those who report their eldest mitochondrial ancestress':
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc ... n_US#gid=0

I'd run your mom's mtdna through the raw data tool to see if you can go further. ;)

Within Europe, >2% frequency distribution of mtDNA J is as follows [2]:
J* = Ireland - 12%, England-Wales - 11%, Scotland - 9%, Orkney - 8%, Germany - 7%, Russia (European) - 7%, Iceland - 7%, Bulgaria-Turkey - 6%, Austria-Switzerland - 5%, Finland-Estonia - 5%, Spain-Portugal - 4%, France-Italy - 3%

J1 = Bulgaria-Turkey - 5%

J1a = Austria-Switzerland - 3%

J1b1 = Scotland - 4%
