I am interested in any information related to M33, especially the possible theory that the ancestral mother for M33s might have been a woman of Chinese ancestry. I have also read that there are M33s in Southern China. Any info/comments/opinions/theories are welcome!!

According to Wikipedia [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplogroup_M_%28mtDNA%29#Asian_origin_theory], M33 has been found in Southern China and Belarus.

M33a has been found in Guyurat, India [based on an article from 2006: Thangaraj et al. (2006), In situ origin of deep rooting lineages of mitochondrial Macrohaplogroup 'M' in India, BMC Genomics 2006, 7:151].

M33c seems to be the clade related to Belarus, and Ashkenazi Jews in the Lithuania/Belarus/Russian region.

There is also a mtDNA M* project in Family Tree DNA: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/M%2 ... Haplogroup
Background
Family Tree DNA's haplogroup description of M: Haplogroup M cluster has been characterized as generally of east Eurasia—a geographic region that includes south Asia, east Asia, and Australasia. One of the two deep roots of the mitochondrial tree of haplogroups found in Asia, haplogroup M dates to approximately 70,000 years ago... DNA sequencing of selected mtDNA coding sites ... characterized by substitutions at the following sites:
positions 6446, 6680, 12403, and 14110 [13], which define the M1 haplogroup in Ethiopia;
position 11946, which defines the M1 and M2 haplogroups in India and the Philippines [13];
sites 153 and 3394 (M9), 4715 and 15487 (M8), 4833 (G), 5178 (D), 9824 (M7), and 10646 (M10), which define various M subgroups (shown in parentheses) observed in Han Chinese [14];
sites 7598, specific to haplogroup E of Borneo and Malaysia, and 16144, which defines haplogroup Q, a subclade of M common in Papua New Guinea.

This link is from GenBank, listing the mutations that define M33 and subclades [notice the two individuals from China]:
