I don't have much to report. I am still a plain vanilla U5 until my HVR1, HVR2 and coding region are tested via FTDNA. I am excited to be here, and I do hope this site will not go "dead" on us. Hi Gail!! Very excited to see you here.

My husband and I tested with the Genographic Project. These were my results:

Type : mtDNA
Haplogroup : U5

Your Mitochondrial HVR I Sequence: 16224C, 16270T

SNP: U11467

I am currently waiting for the MtDNAtoMega test [or something like it] to get more info. As soon as the results are out, I will post to share.

Well since you posted I'll post as well I was a plain vanilla U5, but upon doing the Full mtdna test I am now U5a2d, which is pretty cool, but not enough people have tested to find a match, there are I believe 5 of us, actually Gail gave me the information on the sub-group, and wrote some of these others but I have not heard from anyone as of yet.

Squaw 123 is the other name I use on some of the sites but on Facebook I'm Carrie Koehler, just thought I'd mention that so everyone knows who their talking to.

I posted my results last year. That guy has never replied after about 3 or 4 messages to him. My cousin who of course matched me died on Aug 4, last year 2011. U5a was the final result of my full sequence DNA test.

I did a search for you on FB and found six all total with your name. My name is Carolyn Bigler on FB. I use my adopted maiden name there. Hebert is my married name but I no longer use that account there.

I don't understand why people post their information and e-mail and then never answer their e-mail, I don't want to feel like I'm bothering people, but I really am anxious to talk to possible matches, I would welcome any person looking for possible family from me.

Carolyn,

Your full sequence test will identify a more specific haplogroup then U5a. Have you already joined the U5 and U5a FGS projects? If you share your coding region results with the project admin (that's me) I can tell you which daughter group you are in and if you have any close matches.

Carolyn,

I just checked the project page and I have you in U5a2 Group G. And your close match has not replied to any of my emails either. I suppose sometimes people don't reply because they lose interest, change email addresses, or never check their spam folder. It's very likely that your HVR matches are also in the same group, so if they upgrade to the FGS we could see how closely they match you.

Gail
