Of course Tuscany is on the Moon left:
"There are also two samples in the 1000 genomes project, U8a1b from the UK and U8a1a1b1 from Finland" [Gail Tonnesen on Anthrogenica].

"There are no U8a in the Human Genome Diversity Project [Gail Tonnesen on Anthrogenica]".
Just written to an U8a who matches me on 23andMe. We'll see if he will respond.

Of course U8a (as also GailT suspects) is overwhelmingly Palaeolithic European , but also U8b: Jewish ones are only Ashkenazi (if it were from Middle East why it hasn't been found in other Jewish communities?). The only samples not European come from Caucasus (Armenians)-Iran, and we know why these Indo-European speaking peoples have European DNA, or from Algeria, of course, as for Y DNA, of European origin.

From 23andMe:

McFadden on Jun 9, 2013 at 5:59 AM: U8a1 (1)
madeliefje on Sep 15, 2011 at 5:31 AM : Hello, I am Dutch and a U8a1a through my maternal line.
MoMatt76 on Jul 9, 2013 at 11:11 AM : I'm a U8a and my great grandma(mom's side) was from Czechoslovakia(Czech Republic/Slovakia now).
ervinruci on Sep 16, 2013 at 10:34 AM: I'm U8b'K and I am from Albania.
E Yasta on Nov 20, 2013 at 9:20 PM : I just got my results today: I'm U8a. (no other numbers or letters...?) My family on both sides is Carpatho-Rusyn (aka Lemkos, Ruthenians, "hillbilly Ukrainians") from the Carpathian Mountains in southern Poland. I noticed a person above is from Slovakia... Thanks for all the links and additional information.
MailLady on Mar 31, 2014 at 5:01 PM : I agree with you, there aren't many U8a's out there. I am a U8a and can't seem to make many connections. My mother's side of the family is Swedish, Norwegian and Danish. My father's side is Scottish, Welsh, English and German. Let's connect up and compare our families
puzzled 1 on May 7, 2014 at 8:26 PM : H, I have just got my results and I'm U8a1, but have [k]no[w] idea from where my maternal grandparents. Where from as I was never told, looking forward to find out as much as I can. Puzzled one
Summerlite on May 9, 2014 at 7:31 AM : What? I'm a rare person. I'm a U8a.
Momdale on Jul 11, 2014 at 2:32 PM ( 8 days ago ) : I am U8b. All of my grandparents came from Slovenia. My maternal grandmother is my best guess., But my paternal grandmother worked in Croatia which borders Slovenia and she could speak Polish and Hungarian. All of these countries are very close. I found my greatgrandfather's home in Slovenia. Don't know about any of the others.
Angel73 on Jul 11, 2014 at 7:57 PM ( 8 days ago ): Had a quick survey of those who share connections and it seems to be from mostly Norway, Sweden and Germany. This would primarily be the U8a*. This maternal line carries the Berg surname. As a interesting note that ties in the U5* haplogroup, they are connected and share the Berg surname. The U5* is heavier in Great Britain and ties in Germany too.

Of course it is interesting also this letter of Ian Logan: In response to this thread I have updated my 'U8a' page at:
http://www.ianlogan.co.uk/sequences_by_ ... uences.htm
----------------------------------
From this little survey it seems that U8a* is mostly from the Carpathian region and with an U8b* from Slovenia perhaps an origin in the Eastern Alps could be possible, not far from my "Italian Refugium".
